[[underline]] Monday Augst 20th [[/underline]] We were all waked at 5 o'clock this Morning by His Majesty, who prevented any of Us from rising, as He was pleased to stand and talk to Us in our Cabin, for some time. As soon as He retired We left our Cots & dressed as quick as possible -- After a hurried breakfast, His Majesty went on Shore at half past Six o'Clock - He then reviewed the Four Regiments of Infantry which composed the Garrison Camp. Afterwards H.My went round the New Fortifications, which are very Extensive but they do not appear to Me to have been as judiciously formed as they should have been being commanded by heights on the opposite side of The River Medway. The Works themselves are very neatly constructed.
