amusing -- While on this Excursion, I occasionally recollected His Majesty's welcome intimation to Me this Morning, that He would take a [[underline]] gentle ride, [[/underline]] as the day was very hot -- In lieu however of a gentle refreshing ride, We had this day the smartest I had seen and a favorite mare of His Majesty's was so blown when She arrived at Dropmore Hill, that She did not recover Her Wind for some time -- On the Common close by the Cottage a Poor Old Man threw Himself on his knees before His Majesty, & asked Charity-- The King on seeing Him stopped-- The Old Man told Him that He was 100 yrs. Old, all but a month-- said He was born in Cumberland, & that He had left his Native Place near 70 years ago, & that He was a Groom in the reign of King George the First
