My Dearest Brother - Deeply impressed as we all are with the Kindness and Affection of which You have given Us so many proofs upon every occasion and more recently upon a Subject which has been the Cause of so much Distress and discomfort to Us, and which We have reason to know has produced your Proposal to the Queen that She should meet you in London with a view to an explanation of Her present and future Intentions with respect to the Line which She means to adopt towards Us; We feel that we should not be doing Our Duty towards You or Ourselves, nor indeed be acting with Candour towards the Queen if We did not endeavour to put You in possession of Our Sentiments in order that you may be able to appreciate their Correctness, and also to convey them to the Queen who has precluded Herself from the Knowledge of Them by forbidding Our addressing Her Personally or in writing any further on this Subject Without entering into the Detail of what has passed, with which You are in fact fully acquainted.
