Report on Opening the Body of Princess Amelia November 2. 1786 Cavendish House Novr: 2 1786 In obedience to the order of His Majesty, the Body of her late Royal Highness Princess Amelia Sophia was this day opened, examined, & embalmed by Mr. John Hunter, Serjeant Surgeon extraordinary in the presence of Dr: Warren Physician in ordinary to the King. As soon as the Integuments of the breast bone were removed, a small Tumor was observed externally. The Bone was found to be decayed, loose, & yielding to the touch. the tumour though so small on the outside, as not to be visible during Life, was as large as a Pullett's egg within, & by pressing upon the Lungs & the Heart must have greatly impeded the action of both. The Tumour was of the stiatomatous kind, & originated in the centre of the Bone. The right & left Cavity of the Chest contained each of them more than a Pint of Water. The lungs and the Heart were remarkably flaccid, & appeared to be wasted. A small quantity of Matter was found in ye Windpipe; The valves of the Aorta had begun to ossify.
