Duplicate of a letter from Rear-Adm. Robert Digby to King George III, replying to instructions received and reporting that he will place Prince William with Lord Hood, praising Hood despite their differences of opinion over prize money, commenting on the future employment of those currently in attendance on the Prince (Mr Majendie, Mr Waddington and Capt. Napier) and strongly advising that the latter should be kept with the Prince, giving his opinion of the Prince's character and abilities, and recommending Capt. Elphinstone.

Sir I have receiv’d Your Majesty’s commands in your letter of the 6th of Augt: to place his R:H: with Ld: Hood who is luckily still here & will, (I make no doubt) pay every attention to Prince William possible but I doubt whether his Ldship wou’d willingly pay quite so much attention to my instructions if he cd. seperate them from Your Majestys as he wd have done before the very great & merited credit has has got; Particularly as we have differ’d in oppinion about a matter too common to differ about, (I mean prize money) But I have the greatest oppinion of his Abilitys as an Officer & I think him a very Amiable man in private life, and very much attach’d to Your Majy-, as I have wrote very fully to General Bude', it remains only to inform Your Majy that upon considering Mr. Majendies situation wt. Prince William in every respect, I think it as well he shou’d seperate from his R:H: now as that he shou’d attend him to the West Indies, which quite corresponds with Mr. Majendies Ideas.
