Title

Letter from Princess Augusta to the Prince Regent

Date Created

23 January 1812

Creator

Augusta Sophia, Princess

Description

Augusta writes this letter also on behalf of her sisters and appeals for George's protection against the Queen - who, in the past few years, has been treating her daughters coldly and harshly. The three sisters want George to enquire with the Queen about her intentions for the future since, if the present situation does not change, they will feel forced to abandon the house (Windsor) and take up residence somewhere else - clearly, with the help of the Prince Regent.

[Augusta writes this letter also on behalf of her sisters Elizabeth, Mary and Sophia, whose signatures appear at the end.
A later note on the last page of the letter identifies it as from the three sisters, Augusta, Elizabeth, Sophia and Mary to the Queen. This, however, cannot be, as the letter is clearly addressed to 'My Dear Brother' and the Queen is referred to in the third person.]
